What you don't know

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 28, 2009, 3:02 AM
Ok, so you've had a week to take the test and tell me what you know about me. There are only two things all of you know, and that's that I'm Nilli from Sweden. Full score on those questions, well done! :D

But since you seemed to fail so much on the rest of the questions, I'll give you a quick summary of what you don't know.

1. As I said, most people call me Nilli. There's a story behind this name that most of you don't know. Years ago, ~vanilla-snow and I used to hang out in #pixelart and her friends called her vanilli. I realized that my real name (the one my mother gave me) could be altered in the same way, and we started calling each other "the nilli sis". I don't know if she still feels like a Nilli, but I do, so whenever I introduce myself online it's Nilli. And I don't have much of an offline life at all, so most people really do call me Nilli. Nobody failed this question.

2. My favorite type of pet would be a kitten. I've had a few kittens in my life, and nothing compares to the feeling I get when I hold a kitten close to my heart. Whenever I'm in the apartment/house of someone with cats I often spend more time on the floor with the pets than I do with the people I'm visiting. We'll be getting a kitten soon, I can't wait. 4 of you failed this question.

3. My boyfriend's online name is a type of flower. He goes by the name of the yellow rose, or ~YellowRoze as he spells it. 7 of you failed this question.

4. My occupation in July this year was... nothing. I was unemployed. I've been unemployed since February, to be honest. Except for a few weeks in October, and now I've been one week on my new job. 9 of you failed this question

5. I have one sister and two brothers. They're all older than me. My brothers are both truck drivers (one of them is studying computer science though, so he doesn't drive anything at the moment), and my sister is a technician working with water purification (making sure the whole city gets clean tap water). A whooping 13 of you failed this question (that's 68%) so I guess I don't mention them very often.

6. I live in Sweden. Nobody failed this question.

7. Last time I flew it was to visit `Zikes and meet up with `brokenboulevard in the United States of America, USA. Epic trip was epic. 4 of you failed this question.

8. The program I use for making most of my art is Photoshop. I'm not saying it's the best or anything, it's just the one I'm used to so it's the one where I can do the things I want to do. Only 2 of you failed this question.

9. When I first started identifying myself as an artist, it was as a pixel artist. There are still many remains in my gallery of my pixel art days, and my emoticonist spirit is an evolution of the pixel artist I used to be. Only 2 of you failed this question, which surprises me.

10. The dA symbol of my best friend is the elegant hat also known as a ` senior tick. It's funny, I don't even have to pick a best best friend for this answer, because I have a lot of great senior friends. `ginkgografix, `Zikes, `Synfull and `brokenboulevard are all really great people to know. 9 of you failed this question.

So there you have it, that's me.

The Emote CLOUD

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 27, 2009, 2:24 PM
What you've all been waiting for is finally happening - an upgraded Zikes script! Most everyone who's been on dAmn has either used it or at least heard of it, the wonderful script that gives us access to thousands of custom emoticons. Most of you also know that it's been in a frozen state for over four months, with promises of a new epic Zikes v2 on the way.

Well, Zikes v2 won't happen. Instead, I give you Custom Little Over-Used Deviations, or The Emote CLOUD for short. It is a database that contains the entire Zikes script, and it's eager to be filled with all the emoticons you've been waiting to add for four months! But here's the best part of it all: unlimited codes per emoticon!

That's right - unlimited codes per emoticon!

So if there's an emoticon that you can never remember the "original" code for, go ahead and add its deviation ID (the numbers in the address bar) with a new code and watch the magic happen. There is a new rule here though, all new emoticons needs approval by two other deviants. So whenever you add a new emoticon, tell your friends to go to the website, search for the deviation ID or the code, and click the green button. If you're clever you can search for it yourself, copy the address in the address bar, and paste that link to your friends so all they have to do is click the vote button on the correct row. If you don't know whom to ask, feel free to pop into #EmoteCLOUD and fish for votes in there. Just remember to be nice, don't expect anyone to vote for something they don't actually like.

PLEASE NOTE!
The website is not finished and ugly as hell. I made it myself, aren't you all proud? SO! I recommend you use the new SuperdAmn script by `electricnet for all your custom emoticon needs, it includes alphabetical sorting of the entire list, and also searching for similar codes.

Are you a designer?
If you want to make the Emote CLOUD website pretty and user friendly, feel free to send me a design sketch. You will get full credit for the design. All you need to keep in mind is that I want it green (any shade of green), and the logo has to resemble a cloud made of emoticons.

Are you a scripter?
If you're good with JavaScript and want to create a script using this database, there is a FAQ entry just for you on the website (just search the page for "API"). If you release a script for public use, please let me know so that I can link to it from the website FAQ. `electricnet may be the first scripter to submit a script for this database (because we've been working together), but it's up to you if he'll also be the last.

Are you excited?
Give me an :excited: and go watch `electricnet so you can be among the first users of the new database. Install this script to make use of the Emote CLOUD database today!

What do you know?

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 24, 2009, 1:54 AM
I don't normally do this (right?), but I decided to make a personal quiz. I would appreciate if you'd go to zachriel.funtest.net and answer the questions as best as you can. I don't think any of those questions are particularly hard, so if you've talked to me you should know most of it. But maybe I'm wrong and nobody will get anything right :D There are 10 questions and I think the best possible score is 100.

(Update: Correct answers will be posted here the last weekend of November)

On another note, I started a new job. Got my training for a couple of hours just before the weekend and I'll start properly tomorrow Monday. My job will be to listen to the same 3 minute recording over and over and over again for 4 hours a day (with a few minor details changed) to verify if the recordings are legally binding contracts. Telemarketers tend to cheat a lot, so they need someone to check up on them. What makes the job a great one is that I'll be answering directly to my boyfriend, and the pay is more than what I had for my last job.

If all goes well with this job I'll have plenty of cash next summer for flying places or spoiling visitors. If you want me to fly to you, or if you want to fly to my place, talk to me now and I'll see what we can do ;) It would be epic to catch a proper devmeet some day.

Features wishlist

Quick summary.
:bulletgreen: Explanation.
:bulletyellow: Optional subfeatures.
:bulletblue: Taken care of!

Message Center noises.

:bulletgreen: I want a simple noise when I have new messages in my message center.

:bulletyellow: The user decides what messages makes a noise.

:bulletyellow: The user decides what noises to make (wave files). If not possible, then at least give us a few different choices.

dAmn activity noises.

:bulletgreen: I want a simple noise when things happen on dAmn.

:bulletyellow: The user decides what kind of activity generates a noise (join/part, highlight, talking).

:bulletyellow: The user decides what noises to make (wave files). If not possible, then at least give us a few different choices.

:bulletyellow: Customizable which rooms will generate a noise, for each type of activity.

:bulletyellow: If possible, also customizable what room makes what noise.

:bulletblue: dAudible, dAlert

Browse a GM's DDs.

:bulletgreen: When I browse a Gallery Moderator's favs, it would be great to see what Daily Deviations they have awarded. It would be useful when trying to figure out whom to send the DD suggestion to - is it this GM's style to DD this kind of picture?

More customizable devwatching.

:bulletgreen: I want to watch a deviant for a certain kind of art only. As it is now, we can only pick between Deviations and Scraps, but I'd want to watch someone for their Photography or their Literature or their Vector Art, etc.

:bulletyellow: On/off for polls.

:bulletyellow: On/off for news.

:bulletyellow: On/off for favs. (Yes, I want to watch some deviants' favs).

:bulletyellow: On/off shoutboxes.

User based featuring.

:bulletgreen: Lots of deviants feature other artists in their journal - I say that should be done in a separate system, a DD like system with captions, and other deviants can decide whose features to watch. Similar to watching someone's favs, only this system allows for featuring one artist with several thumbs in one feature, as well as adding motivations.

:bulletyellow: Featured artists will get a message in their message center with the feature, as if they were watching the deviant who featured them.

Enhanced message center sorting.

:bulletgreen: Recently having 1,000 new messages in one day, I found a flaw in the message center. I'd want to be able to sort incoming messages by person, so I can see right away if this new watcher also faved or commented, without having to plow through hundreds of messages.

:bulletyellow: Sort by item, so all favs for a certain deviation ends up separated from the favs of another deviation. Comments on one journal separated from comments on another journal.

dAmn logs.

:bulletgreen: Readable chat logs of the chatrooms I've been in. Only for when I was actually there.

:bulletyellow: Chat logs could be permanently stored on dA's servers (so that they won't be saved once for every person who was there - duplicated data is never good), and deviants would get access to the logs based on the times they join or leave a room.

:bulletyellow: Chat logs formatted in a way that I can just do copy/paste into my journal and the journal will display it as-was.

:bulletyellow: A chat log module for user pages. Our own personal dAmn.it so we can share the best moments of dAmn with our visitors.

dAmn wikipedia links

:bulletgreen: Everything surrounded by [[ and ]] automatically turns into wikipedia links.
